These New Years Day activities are wonderful ways to have a great start to the year. They are fun activities the whole family will love and the perfect way to spend New Year's Day.
I tend to go above and beyond when it comes to holidays. I love all the creative ideas that go into holiday decorations, traditions, and foods, especially the food.
Growing up, my mom always did her best to make the holidays special. I have carried that tradition on with my family by creating special moments that we will remember forever.
A tradition we love is making holiday treats together. Our Christmas reindeer Chex mix recipe and white chocolate Christmas crack are some favorites. We also love our Valentines cake pop recipe.
Drink recipes are also popular at our house. Grandpa Bob's homemade root beer has been in the family for over 50 years! This 4th of July mocktail is also a fan favorite because of the gorgeous coloring. But these non-alcoholic sparkling drinks are great for New Years Day.
Christmas is my favorite, but I also enjoy New Year's especially with this new year's eve charcuterie board. There are fun New Year's Eve parties with party hats, party favors, live music, and plenty of other fun New Year's Eve activities.
There are many New Year's Eve ideas and ways to celebrate, but what about New Year's Day? Just because you have already watched the ball drop doesn't mean you can't still have a great time celebrating the coming year.
Here are some New Year's day activities that you should try next year. Kids of all ages will love them, and I'm sure you will love these fun activity ideas too. If you do still need New Year's Eve ball drop for kids and countdown ideas, we've got them.
And here are some New Years Eve party theme ideas for adults that go great with our non alcoholic champagne.
Games
I don't know about you, but we love board games at our house! Playing games is a great way to spend time together as a family and have fun. We usually will let each kid pick out a game so everyone is happy.
We usually play Monopoly Junior, Trouble, Candy Land, and Chutes and Ladders with the younger kids. Some other options are Clue Junior, Hi Ho Cheerio, and memory games.
Clue, Life, Sorry, and Ticket to Ride are popular with the older kiddos in our house. Board games are fun games because you can chat as you sit together, which is what the holidays are all about.
Then you have card games. Some of our favorites are Uno, Apples to Apples, Skip-Bo, and Monopoly Deal. Skull King is another one of our go-to card games. You can also play typical card games with a standard deck of cards.
If you and your family are into video games, there are plenty of family games that we recommend. Nintendo games like Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Super Smash Brothers are classics that your kids will love.
Just Dance is a great game, especially if your kiddos need to burn off some energy. You can also purchase arcade games, so you can show your kids the games you grew up on.
Instead of buying new games, you can have your kids create a new game that you can play around the house. They get to be creative, and these games could become a part of your family's traditions.
Crafts
You can't go wrong when it comes to arts and crafts. We know the entire family will have a lot of fun creating things together. Making something is a great way to connect with your creative side.
Because it is the beginning of a new year, you could make a family calendar for the year. We know you have plenty of activities going on, so why not have a beautiful place to write them all down?
An easy way to make a calendar is to create one online. Find a website that prints calendars (Walgreens and Shutterfly work great), and get started! You and your family can pick out your favorite pictures and add them to the calendar.
Picking out silly pictures to add to the calendar creates a hilarious calendar that you will love to check. The kids get excited to change the calendar to the next month, which makes changing the calendar easy.
You can also make your own physical calendar. Print out sheets for each month and decorate the pages however you want. Have your kids decorate their birth month, use festive colors around the holidays, and get creative.
Save this post for later!
The kids can make their own calendars, too, if they want. They can decorate their calendars however they want, and they can learn how to use a calendar of their own. It is a wonderful way to help your kids learn their days of the week.
A common thing to do at the beginning of a new year is to come up with New Year's resolutions. This may be on the trickier side for younger kids, so we suggest making a bucket list for the year.
Each kid can have their poster board and decorate it in their own way. You may have to write down their resolutions/list but have them decorate the rest. The kids will love coming up with fun things to do throughout the year.
Some examples are going on a family trip, planning a picnic, or reading a certain amount of books. Other bucket list items could be having a sleepover, making cookies for the neighbors, and other stuff like that.
Another fun craft to make is a scrapbook from the previous year. This craft takes some planning because you will need to have pictures from the year. You can either pick them out yourself or have the kids help.
We suggest having a scrapbook where you can take out the pages so each kid can work on different pages at a time. Buy some fun stickers, cutouts, and anything else that will make your scrapbook beautiful!
Having your kids make a scrapbook is wonderful because you will be able to look back at what you all did that year and see their creativity come out. Scrapbooks are big projects, so this may be more than just a New Year's day craft.
Time Capsule
Going off the idea of a scrapbook, another way to remember what you did the past year is to make a time capsule. The most important thing you need when it comes to a time capsule is a solid storage container.
Ensure the container is waterproof so it is not possible to get damaged. After that, there is no rhyme or reason. Let your kids pick what they want to put into the time capsule, but remind them they cannot access it.
Some time capsule ideas are artwork from the year, pictures, a letter to their future self, etc. Have your kids write down their favorite things at the moment so they can look back at what they liked back in the day.
Another fun thing to add to the box is a ribbon or string showing how tall your child was then. They could trace their hands and feet to show the size too. Add anything that will show who they are in the moment.
Movie Marathon
I don't know about you, but after the holiday season, I am tired. I love the holidays, don't get me wrong, but all of the baking, wrapping presents, and parties can be tiring. So, a movie marathon is exactly what I need.
Pick out your favorite family movies and enjoy. Have your kids bring their favorite pillows and blankets into the living room to make it extra fun. You can also serve any leftover snacks and treats from your New Year's Eve party.
Some of our favorite movies are these best family Thanksgiving movies and best 4th of July movies. Just because they are Thanksgiving and 4th of July movies doesn't mean you can't enjoy them year round!
There are tons of movie ideas in those lists, so pick and choose your favorites. Disney+ and Netflix always have great family-friendly movie options as well. You can have each kid pick their favorite movie so everyone is happy.
You can also binge a new TV show or rewatch a family favorite. New TV shows always come out around the holiday season, so you should have some great options.
Organize
Although organizing is not the most fun thing in the world, the start of a new year is the perfect time to do so. You don't have to organize the whole house, but doing just a little bit will start the year off right.
An easy thing to do is to have your kids go through their toys and pick out which ones they don't play with as much anymore. Create a pile and donate the toys to your local donation center.
Next, go through your closets and pull out what doesn't fit anymore. Your kids can do this as well. Kids are always growing, so there are always pieces of clothing they have grown out of.
Your kids may not be thrilled with cleaning and organizing, so make a game out of it! Put on a timer for 10 minutes, and once that timer goes off, have a little dance party. It helps break up the time, and who doesn't love a dance party?
These are just a few ideas of what you could do on New Year's Day. We hope you have a Happy New Year and enjoy time with your loved ones.
