Notes

Recipe variations

  • Chocolate lover - If you're a chocolate lover, feel free to drizzle more melted chocolate after the valentine cake pops have hardened. This will not only add more chocolatey goodness, it will also add to the aesthetic appeal.
  • Gluten-free - If you're catering to celiac disease or a gluten allergy, feel free to use a gluten-free cake.
  • Different cake flavor - You can use red velvet cake mix, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, funfetti, etc. for this cake pop recipe. Feel free to make them your own!
  • Different frosting - It does not matter what type of frosting you use. Cream cheese frosting, chocolate buttercream, or even whipped frosting will work.

Make ahead, storage, and freezing instructions

Make ahead: You can make these cake pops a few days ahead of time or much on them throughout the week. These make great DIY valentine's treats for school
How to store: To store cake pops, make sure the chocolate coating has completely hardened before storing at room temperature in a ziplock bag or airtight container. Putting wax paper between each layer of cake pops helps keep them from sticking together.
How to freeze: If you want to freeze these easy cake pops, place them in an airtight container or a freezer bag. The best way to keep these cake pops fresh is by vacuum sealing them in a freezer bag. You can also individually wrap the cake pops in plastic wrap and then wrap them in aluminum foil.
