Ingredients

Chocolate Pudding

  • 1 1/2 cups full fat milk, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar plus 2 tablespoons
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 oreos, broken into small pieces
  • 8 gummy worms

Instructions

  • Place 1 cup milk, cream, 1/2 cup sugar and butter in a heavy saucepan or double boiler and cook until butter is melted and milk is slightly scalded
  • Whisk together egg yolks and 2 tablespoons sugar in a small bowl and slowly add this mixture to the hot milk mixture, whisking lightly
  • Continue cooking for 10-15 minutes on a low heat until mixture starts to thicken a bit
  • Whisk reserved 1/2 milk and cornstarch together then add to hot milk mixture slowly, whisking constantly
  • Intermittently whisk mixture & continue to cook for the next 10-15 minutes
  • Place 1/4 cup chocolate pudding into small jars and top with some crushed Oreo cookie crumbs

  • Add the other 1/4 cup chocolate pudding and top with more cookie crumbs

  • Finish by adding a gummy worm to the top like it is coming out

Notes

Storing - You can absolutely make this chocolate pudding dirt cup recipe ahead of time. Once they are assembled, cover each cup in plastic wrap and store in the fridge.
Freezing - Pudding will last up to 3 months in the freezer, so you could freeze this treat. I would recommend adding the gummy worm when you are ready to eat the dessert because gummy worms are very hard when frozen.
